David Rodes
David Rodes has held Fulbright, Woodrow Wilson, and Danforth graduate fellowships and in 1968 received a Ph. D. from Stanford University. He has taught Shakespeare and 16-18th Century Theater in UCLA's Department of English since 1966 and has been a consultant for various stage, film, and television projects on classical theater (including Robert Wilson’s meditation on Shakespeare’s King Lear, 1985). In 1989 he was appointed director of UCLA's prestigious collection of fine art prints, drawings, and photographs, the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts, located at the UCLA Hammer Museum. In July 2004 Rodes became senior lecturer and director emeritus.
In addition to his work in the English Department and at the Grunwald Center, Rodes also served as chair of the Chancellor’s Committee on Instructional Improvement and chair of the Academic Senate’s Undergraduate Council and General Education Governance Committee. He and his colleague A. R. Braunmuller completed an innovative, interactive CD-ROM project on Shakespeare's Macbeth in 1994.
In 1972 Rodes received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award, and in 1995 he was decorated by the French government for his contributions to French intellectual activities. In 1984-85 he served as president of UCLA’s Design for Sharing.
